FINAT FTM

The Importance of FINAT Test Methods since its publication 30 years ago, the FINAT Technical Handbook has been and continues to be one of the association's most important contributions to the global self-adhesive label industry. The book emphasizes the importance of testing the significant criteria in this complex product area and currently presents a total of 30 relevant test methods.

Finat FTM 1

The adhesive force is the force required to remove a self-adhesive material, which has been bonded to a standard test panel under certain conditions, from this panel again at a certain peel angle of 180° and a speed of 300 mm/min.

Finat FTM 2

Adhesive force is the force required to release a self-adhesive material, which has been bonded to a standard test panel under specified conditions, from that panel at a specified peel angle of 90° and a speed of 300mm/min. Measurements are taken 20 minutes as well as 24 hours after adhesion, the latter being considered as the final adhesion.

Finat FTM 3

The release force at slow peel is the force required to peel a self-adhesive coated material from its release paper (or, conversely, the release paper from the self-adhesive material) at an angle of 180° and a clamping speed of 300 mm/min.

Finat FTM 4

Fast Peel Release Force is the force required to peel the release paper from the self-adhesive material (or vice versa), at an angle of 180° and at a speed of up to 300 m/min - Highspeed Release Test.

Finat FTM 5

The method is suitable for evaluating the resistance of adhesive composites to elevated temperatures and/or long-term storage (accelerated aging). It can be combined with other FINAT test methods.

Finat FTM 6

The resistance of a self-adhesive material to ultraviolet light is defined as the decrease in peel strength (FTM 1 or 2), shear strength (FTM 8), "loop-tack" initial adhesion (FTM 9), and the degree of discoloration and adhesive breakdown after a defined irradiation similar in spectrum to sunlight.

FINAT FTM 7

The silicone coating weight is defined as the amount of cured silicone release coating on a standard area of a base material. It is given in grams per square meter (g/m2). The silicone coating weight can be one of the key parameters in evaluating the quality of a release material.
